"Stomp the Stigma" Accompanying Mental Health Issues

October has been proclaimed as Douglas County Behavioral Health Month by Douglas County Commission Chairman Dr. Romona Jackson Jones. A series of events designed to build awareness and to “Stomp the Stigma” that accompanies the increasingly important subject of mental health are planned. Two of the planned events will be held in local high schools, Alexander and Chapel Hill.  

A Stomp the Stigma: Community Awareness Panel will be held in the Alexander High School Cafeteria on October 12th from 6–8 pm and another at Chapel Hill High School on October 19th, 6-8 pm in the cafeteria.

Given the mounting prevalence of stress and trauma-related disorders, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, abuse, and others in Douglas County and nationwide, there is a mounting need to take this taboo subject more seriously right away and it begins with easy discussions that gradually “Stomp the Stigma”.

10/6: Stomp the Stigma Fridays: Free Massage and Yoga at “Keep It Moving Yoga & Barre” (also13th, 20th & 27th)

10/12: Stomp the Stigma: Community Awareness Panel: Alexander High School Cafeteria 6 – 8:00 pm

10/24: Commissioner’s Stomp the Stigma Behavioral Health Forum – Douglasville Conference Center 6:00 – 8:30pm

10/28: Walk for Wellness & Community Day - Opening Remarks/Walk: 10am - Yoga: 11:30am - Community Day/Music: 12noon
